SynBalance® ProBeautyShield, a probiotic ingredient developed by SYNBALANCE SRL, is the winner of the eighth edition NutraIngredients Award Europe for the category “Ingredient of the year – Beauty from Within”.
Organized by NutraIngredients.com – one of the principal information website for the functional food and beverage industry – these awards recognize the most promising ingredients, products, businesses, people and initiatives in the nutrition and dietary supplement industry.
As a spin-off of ROELMI HPC, SYNBALANCE is the reliable partner for developing probiotic-based products supported by clinical evidence. In May 2022, the new company has won the award “Ingredient of the year – Beauty from Within” thanks to SynBalance® ProBeautyShield: a probiotic complex composed by L. plantarum PBS067, L. rhamnosus LRH020 and L. reuteri PBS072, specifically designed for skin health.
Those probiotic strains have been carefully selected through extensive in-vitro models as the production of metabolites & B-group vitamins, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activity against skin pathogens (S. epidermidis, S. aureus, C. acnes) and then clinically tested showing excellent results in subjects with atopic and acneic skin with visible short-term results after 28 days, and prolonged even after the end of the product intake.
In subjects from mild to moderate atopic dermatitis, SynBalance® ProBeautyShield showed a marked improvement in skin hydration, softness and skin barrier integrity. Also symptoms associated with atopic dermatitis such as redness, itching have found benefit, both in the short and long-term. Indeed, the subjects were visited even a month after the end of product intake (56 days) confirming the excellent performance observed during the period of administration.
Moreover, SynBalance® ProBeautyShield has been tested on subjects with acne-prone skin (IGA scale from 1 to 3). The results reported a significant reduction of skin sebum and pH, as well as an improvement in skin complexion seen as a reduction of inflammation around the skin lesion and in the number of comedones.
The long-term beneficial effect demonstrated by the ingredient SynBalance® ProBeautyShield is further supported by the ability of probiotic strains to colonize and persist in the gastrointestinal tract.
As demonstrated by clinical evidence, SynBalance® ProBeautyShield not only provides a short-term effect in relieving skin discomforts in atopic or acneic-prone subjects, but offers a comprehensive approach thanks to the long-term effect, by decreasing their severity and symptomatology. Therefore, the ingredient is a good ally in providing the maintenance of a normal skin through a daily probiotic integration. In a situation where the interaction between the intestinal bacterial ecosystem and the cutaneous district is demonstrated (the gut-skin axis), acting from within could be an interesting strategy both for prevention and support of skin disorders.
