The fifth edition of IBS Days, marking the 10th anniversary of the meeting, offered a comprehensive update on irritable bowel syndrome, bringing together around 500 participants for a full programme of education, scientific discussion and clinical exchange. In this interview Giovanni Barbara (University of Bologna), Congress Chair, reflects on the key takeaways from the congress and shares his closing remarks.

The interview highlights the key elements of the event, from the postgraduate course focused on the practical management of patients to the scientific sessions dedicated to the many factors involved in IBS pathophysiology. Topics included the role of the gut microbiota, diet, intestinal permeability, immunity and the enteric nervous system, reflecting the complexity of a condition that requires both solid scientific knowledge and a patient-centred clinical approach.

IBS Days once again confirmed its role as an important forum for specialists interested in improving the diagnosis and treatment of IBS. Beyond the scientific programme, the meeting also offered opportunities for informal exchange and networking, reinforcing the value of a community that will meet again in two years, whether in Bologna or elsewhere in Italy.
