At the upcoming Probiotic, Prebiotic and New Food Congress, held in Rome from September 14–16, Professor Willem de Vos – Professor of Human Microbiomes at the University of Helsinki – will contribute as both a speaker and session chair.
His lecture, “Intrinsic Fiber Off-Drive: A Secret Route from Transit to Targeted Delivery and Host Function,” will explore emerging insights into the role of dietary fibers and their transformation into targeted microbiome-modulating tools.
In a session dedicated to next-generation biotics, Prof. de Vos highlights groundbreaking research that moves beyond traditional probiotics and prebiotics, presenting new mechanisms of action and clinical evidence.
The session will feature presentations on Faecalibacterium prausnitzii in IBD, and pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila, a postbiotic with proven effects on glucose metabolism, weight management, and potentially sleep regulation.
By combining fundamental research with industrial innovation, these next-generation biotics offer new strategies to enhance human health and quality of life. This congress represents a unique platform to engage with leading experts and translate scientific advancements into clinical and commercial practice.
