During the 17th International Scientific Conference on Probiotics, Prebiotics, Gut Microbiota and Health – IPC2024, held in Prague last June, Microbiomepost conducted an exclusive interview with Mireia Romagosa Vilarnau, Argenta Global, about the registration of microbial products.
The European regulatory framework for microbial products is intricate, with distinctions between food and feed categories. In food, microbial products fall into nutritional and non-nutritional categories, while in feed, they include additives, feed materials, and GMOs. Despite these differences, EU regulations provide a common procedural path with a focus on transparency. This interview highlights that while there are regulatory variations, the requirements for microorganisms across categories are largely similar.
